Cooking Steps Is Live, and It Is Free
Today Cooking Steps has a home on the open web: cookingsteps.app. It is free, it has no ads, and it does not ask you to create an account just to cook.
What it is
Cooking Steps is an interactive cookbook. Instead of one long page you scroll and lose, every recipe becomes a stack of steps, one per screen, with big type you can read from the counter. The details that usually live in your head get handled for you:
- Timers are attached to the steps that need them. Tap the time and it counts down, and it keeps counting even if you wander off to another recipe.
- The shopping list writes itself. Tap ingredients across any recipes and they merge into one tidy list, with duplicates combined.
- Servings scale. Cooking for 2 instead of 4? Every quantity follows, snapped to sensible kitchen fractions.
- Units follow you. Pounds, ounces or kilos, °F or °C, switched with one toggle and applied everywhere.
- Paste any recipe. Drop in a whole messy block of text and the app splits it into steps, finds the ingredients, and attaches the timers on its own.
And now it travels
The newest part is the bit we are most excited about. Make a free account and your cookbook syncs to every device you own, so the recipe you saved on the couch is waiting at the stove. Publish a recipe you are proud of and it appears on the Explore shelf for everyone, with your name on it. See something good on Explore? One tap saves it into your own cookbook.
Putting it on your phone
It installs like an app without an app store:
- Open cookingsteps.app/app in Safari (iPhone) or Chrome (Android).
- On iPhone: tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. On Android: tap Install app.
- That is it. Own icon, works offline, updates itself.
What is next
More starter recipes, more polish, and whatever the stove teaches us. If something feels rough or you have an idea, we genuinely want to hear it.
Happy cooking. 🍳
